OISC GOALKEEPERS – SPRING PROGRAM

The Golden Gloves Academy and the Ottawa Internationals Soccer Club partnered up and ran a 6-week GK program to sharpen the individual goalkeeper skills and prepare them for a successful season. I would like to thank the kids for all their hard work, wonderful attitude and commitment towards completing a very successful program. I would also like to make a special mention about one of my coaching assistants – Douglas Anderson; who had a very positive impact on all the kids and brought a balance of knowledge and fun to each session!

50, 400 Ball Touches

Here is a young talent that is most certainly going to be a keeper to watch out for in the future. This boy’s name is Zach Barwick and plays for a team in Russell, Ontario. He is 10 years of age, turning 11 soon, and has been with the academy for over 16 months now. His commitment towards developing into a top quality keeper is 2nd to nobody! He is unbelievably driven and passionate about his training, and most importantly, the game. He gives 100% effort every time he comes to train at the academy and continues with that desire to improve by training at home as well.

Remember that success starts with a dream. Zach is doing just that; following his dream. He’s putting the time and effort in doing the “little things” that has been suggested to him to work on, and, his confidence and success in this unique position is shining because of it!

In this video Zach shows us his “training book” that logs all of his training exercises and events that have to do with soccer. He started doing his “ball touches” back in December (homework at the time) and has never stopped. He does 100 ball touches every night and has no desire to slow down.

Our Friend in Wales

Coach Paul Simms is seen here with one of his “future stars” sporting the Golden Gloves Academy kit back in is homeland Wales. Since returning home he has been offering his expertise to local keepers, and as a result, has become quite popular in a short time. His ability has not gone unnoticed. In fact, some of the nearby professional clubs have been peeking in on Paul’s training sessions to see for themselves the type of training that seems to be producing skill, solid decision making and most importantly confidence in every young keeper.
