You may have read about Brogan Engbers in previous postings but this young goalkeeper needs to be mentioned again. He is not only a talented soccer player, positive team mate and a very determined young athlete but a wonderful young man that is going to make his mark someday at the next level. Read the latest article put out by the DANONE NATIONS CUP organization highlighting Brogan’s success at the DANONE NATIONS CUP held in Madrid, Spain, and also, a few personal questions that you may not have known about him.

Team Canada’s keeper at the 12th edition of the Danone Nations Cup, Brogan was instrumental to the success of his team. Let’s learn more about him!

In this series of articles, we’ll introduce you to a few members of the team that represented Canada at the international final of the 2011 Danone Nations Cup, held in Madrid, Spain.

Brogan was Team Canada’s keeper at the international final of the Danone Nations Cup, held in October 2011. Always focused, and prepared for all shots on target, he proudly represented Canada in allowing only four goals in eight games. Amazing!!

His favourite soccer players are… Iker Cassillas, Joe Hart, and Lassi Hurskainen, a university keeper.
During the season, he plays soccer… 10 hours a week, but because I’m a keeper, I also have extra training away from my team.
His most cherished memory from his trip to Madrid for the international final of the Danone Nations Cup is… Playing in Santiago Bernabeu Stadium
His most cherished memory from his experience at the Danone Nations Cup is… Meeting kids from different countries and learning about their cultures.
When he is not playing soccer, he likes to… Play video games and talk to friends from the Danone Nations Cup that live in different countries!
His idol is… My Dad! He balances so many things like caring for my family and me, and doing stuff for himself too (he is very athletic).
His favourite meal is… Any type of pasta!
He would like to become… I would like to continue to play soccer, possibly in Europe. It would also be an honour to play for my country again!
A native of Cumberland, near Ottawa, Brogan continues to train to make his dream come true!

GOLD MEDAL

There is no better reward in the world as a coach, teacher or mentor than having one of your aspiring young talents have her dream come true. Rachelle “BEANZ” Beanlands made an appearance at the academy last evening to get a little training in with the group, meet the “up and comers” and to share with all of us her gold medal. Beanz earned this medal as a member of the Women’s Canadian National Team who won gold at the the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, 2011 . I will tell you that none of us – including myself could believe how heavy it was to hold in your hand but how light it made you feel on your feet. A moment that all of us last night will cherish forever.

BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT EVER

Taylor Beitz is a young 13 year old goalkeeper who has recently joined the academy in an effort to enhance her learning and strengthen her goalkeeper skills to reach her ultimate goal – to play for Canada someday. When she found out that one of my former students of the academy was Rachelle Beanlands “BEANZ” as she likes to be called, Taylor immediately made an effort to connect with her. The two set up a training session together over the Christmas holidays and it just so happen to be the day after Taylor’s birthday. Taylor’s dad said it was the best gift ever for his young daughter who travels all the way from Cornwall every Friday night for training. Beanz said it was a treat to meet someone as special as Taylor who seems to be so committed and passionate about her future. As a coach, I was simply excited to have the two training and to have finally met. It was a wonderful session and a real “eye opener” to our young talent who will remember this day for a very long time.
